Our 5th annual Potato Day will be held in Loughborough Town Centre on Saturday 26th January 2019. Potato Day is a great way for local gardeners to get access to low cost seed potatoes, and the range of varieties offered means that you can try several different types of spuds without having to buy large bags. In the past we’ve had orders ranging from a single tuber up to enough for a field!
We have partnered with our friends at Transition Chesterfield to make a large bulk purchase in order to keep the costs low. We took pre-orders until early December. The people who pre-ordered their supplies in the Autumn can pick them up from the Potato Day stall on Saturday 26th January, which will be in Loughborough Market. We usually have a limited quantity of some of the more popular varieties of seed potato for sale on the day at a slightly higher, non-discount price (so it was worthwhile pre-ordering!). Please note that pre-orders must be picked up from our stall on Potato Day – we don’t have space for long term storage of lots of potatoes in Loughborough.
We will also have a team of volunteers staffing the Baptist Church cafe on the morning of Potato Day, which is located just round the corner in Baxter Gate. The proceeds from this cafe on the morning will go towards helping to pay for some of the events and workshops we run during the rest of the year. So if you want some refreshments whilst shopping at the market, pop in there and say hello!
