Climate change is a major issue facing humanity, but it can seem to be too large, complicated and remote for individuals such as ourselves to know what we can do to tackle it. Individually we’ll only be able to make a small dent in the amount of greenhouse gases (the things that are causing climate change) but together, all making small improvements to our behaviour, we can make a big difference.
Fear not! Here are some suggestions for small changes in various areas of your life that can help reduce your ecological footprint. These are things that Transition Loughborough members have suggested and do themselves. Bear in mind that everyone’s lifestyle is different, so you don’t have to do all of them (but it’s great if you can!). Just embedding a couple in your day-to-day actions can help make large long term differences. To help you choose what ideas would work best for you, we’ll try to indicate how much each change will cost (if anything) and what positive impact(s) it will have.
- Energy use in and around the home
- Food production and consumption
- Around the workplace
If you have other ideas that will help local people reduce the carbon impact they will have, please let us know so that we can add to this list. And if you have an idea for a scheme or project that you’d like to take forward, please speak up. Transition Loughborough is run by Loughborough folk for Loughborough folk and we’d love to have you on board!
